Monday: Marketing Update

Here's a shot of my new biz cards before they were cut.

An iPhone shot of print trimmings.

The prints for the portfolio are now trimmed and are ready to be scored, folded, and hole punched. I have a few more prints I want to make including a good cover sheet that flows with my new branding/identity. The book should be ready soon and I'll post some quality images of it instead of these noisy iPhone shots.
My new business cards arrived today from EM Letterpress. That completes the printing for all of my new identity system. I have the biz cards, which are super slick and I'm really stoked on. I have some really nice envelopes. Some mailing labels to send stuff off in style. And some nice vinyl stickers to stick on dvd cases and everything else. It's a totally new complete branding for Josh Campbell Photography designed by my friend Eduardo Nemeth. I'll also post some nice images of everything after I shoot them. I feel it's really important to have all of these pieces as a photographer (or in any business). It shows that I am committed professional and gives clients an idea of what to expect as for as the level and the quality of my photography.

Friday: Shots I did on Film

As always click on the image to make it bigger. Notice that grain!
Here's a shot of Mikey from my old neighborhood. I met him one day when he was learning to olly and gave him a pointer. Then he nailed it right away and we were instant friends.
This shot was with Kodak's Color Infrared Film. It was an E6(slide film) cross processed in C41(negative/print film) giving the super saturated and extra contrast. I think this was from one of two or three rolls that I ever shot with that film. If I remember right it was super expensive too, like $25 a roll. But man look at those color shifts straight out of the can, no photoshop magic here. Enjoy and check in next Friday for another image captured with emulsion and not pixels!

Thursday: Portrait On The Go

Please click on the image to see it bigger. Bigger is better in this case!
On Thursday's I'm now featuring a portrait of someone I go up to on the street and ask to take their photo. My intention in doing this is to push myself to talk with new people and create a cool image from it. No planning, no production, no lights or assistants. Just me, my camera, and a subject that I've never met. So simple yet so cool too. I find it challenging but very rewarding.
This guy was the first person I photographed while taking on this new self assignment. I photographed him last Sunday morning in Harvard Square while walking to get my wife a coffee after I dropped her at work.
Any thoughts, comments, criticism?

Kyle Holmquist

Click on the image to make it bigger.
The above photo is of the knuckles of Kyle Holmquist. I met Kyle last weekend. He's interested in assisting me and other photographers here in Boston. Before we had even met he had agreed to help me out for free on Sunday with a sunrise running shot. The call time was around 5:30am and the temps were floating around 0°. The runner called me a little after 4:00am and informed me that her husband was going to the emergency room and she couldn't do it. All was cool as health and family are way more important than a photoshoot. So I called Kyle and canceled with him too. He had the same easy going laid back response I had. He came by later that day and we talked for a bit and I took this shot of his tattoo.
Thanks for being a cool guy Kyle. The next gig is yours for sure!
Check out Kyle's photography here.

Wednesday: Hipstamatic/iPhone Holga

As always click on the image to see it bigger.
So here's another contact sheet of Hipstamatic images from my iPhone. I like the contact sheet format. It reminds me of the days when I used film and would see a roll of holga film in a similar fashion. I'm posting these images once a week now on Wednesdays to share with you, the blog reader, the way I see life. I see something cool in all the little things that could go unnoticed or have beauty that is usually overlooked. I'm always seeing something cool, I'm always looking for something cool, and now I'm using the Hipstamatic app on my phone to shoot just about everything I see.

Any thoughts? Are you inspired? Hate this? Love it? I would love for everyone that visits the blog to leave a comment. I know you guys are reading, i have the analytics installed. Please take a sec and type a few words. Thanks-Josh

I have posted in the past about how photographers like Trevor Graves and Russ Quackenbush have inspired me in my lifelong photography adventure. I've decided to feature a photographer or an artist who inspires me every Tuesday here on the blog. The intention is to pay respects to those who have contibuted to me through their work as well as give you the reader a slice of insight on who I am.
This week I have chosen my friend and collegue Joel Benjamin. I have learned and continue to learn a lot from Joel about this business, lighting, producing, as well as communication with clients and subjects. I've been lucky enought to work with him for a number of years now and be part of his growth as a photographer, artist and businessman. Thanks Joel!

Monday: Marketing Update

Here are a few iPhone quickshots of the prints for my book.

PORTFOLIO:
Yesterday I spent most of the day printing the pages of my new portfolio. I have more prints to make. Then comes the trimming, scoring, and hole punching required to assemble the book. It was cool to print yesterday. It seems a lot of the time with digital I only print when a print is needed. Most images are sent over the internet to clients, burned to a disc, or moved to another hard drive. The photos really came alive to me yesterday when I saw them printed really well and at a descent size. I'm still flying high from it!

SOCIAL NETWORKING:
I joined Facebook finally. I had been holding out thinking it was a time waster. Now I am of the thought that connections and relationships are very important however we have them. It's pretty amazing how within twenty four hours I became connected to over 100 people. My name was seen by over 100 people. My web hits went way up, so people were looking at my work. Yeah I'm sure some were friends and family but I'm also sure that some were folks that hire or know people that hire photographers. It's win win. So if you are here and we are cool guy friends on the Facebook please look me up and send a request.
