Tuesday: Photographer/Artist That Inspires Me
This week I am feauturing long time friend and photographic artist Jenny Wilson. I have known Jenny since high school. We went to the same college in Vermont and then were roommates at photo school. She is currently living in Brooklyn with her husband James and dogs Grace and Keeper.
Jenny's unique approach to seeing things as art really comes through in her work. While seeing the scans here on the interweb is cool you really need to see her prints to fully experience just how well done they are, especially the black and white images.
Jenny please keep up the good work and thanks for inspiring me all these years!

Monday: Portraits of my Family + Friends
I'm changing things up a bit this week here on the blog. I am introducing Portraits of My Family+Friends Monday's instead of the marketing update. While I am a businessman I am a photographer first and want to keep things fresh and have my photos seen.
This is a portrait of my Grandmother. She is 80 years young and living a great life. She works out every day and is going on a cruise in May. This portrait is special to me because not only is it the first portrait I have taken of her but the day I photographed her was the first time I had seen her in many years.

Found by Seeing
Today I was out for a run and saw this one lonesome slide on the ground. Picked it up and slid it in my jacket pocket and went on with the run. The slide is very cool 70's looking family scene, real lifestyle. I find it amazing that even in the midst of learning to run I still see things. I'm still looking around at my environment and noticing things that most take for granted or don't even realize is there. Today I stumbled onto a golden moment in time and I'm very grateful for it!

Friday: Shots I did on Film
Tomorrow is the half pipe finals for the US Open of Snowboarding up at Stratton, VT. It's traditionally the last major contest of the season and one of the only times of the year the super pros snowboard on the east coast. Huge crowds, good parties, and lots of really good snowboarding. I have photographed the event many times and these images are some of my most memorable. I have pleanty of shots in the archives of super big half pipe tricks but these were just so much fun. They are of Vermont native and Editor of Snowboarder Magazine, Pat Briges. Pat had this idea back in 2003 to enter the event and write about what it was like from a "competitors" perspective. In classic Bridges style he shotgunned a Red Bull and lit up a cig in the starting gate. I didn't catch his run but I can be certain there was at least one very well executed hand plant in there. He's the king of the handplant. I think I remeber him doing handplants at Killington one time with a beer in his hand and not spilling a drop. Only Pat Briges man, only Pat!

Tuesday: Photographer/Artist That Inspires Me
This week I am feauturng Richard Avedon as a photographer that inspires me. As an assistant I would regularly go with Joel Benjamin to photograph the collection of the JFK Library and Museum. At their storage facility is a huge Avedon print of Jackie Kennedy that measures something like 8 feet by 10 feet. So damn cool.
I am very inspired by his American West series. This crisp large format black and whites shot on white of regular plain old hard working Americans. So well done. Makes me want to bust out the 4x5 and hit the road.
So thank you Mr. Avedon for creating such inspiring work!

Friday: Shots I did with film
I thought of this shot earlier this week. I created this in late 2001 or early 2002 with film in a plastic Holga camera. I used a softbox and a white seamless set up in our kitchen. My friend and roomate at the time had this rad cowboy hat that he go in Texas while on a shoot and doing some mechanical bull riding. We shot this just for the hell of it, just to shoot. Enjoy!
Thursday: Portrait on the Go
This project may be turning into something. I'm liking the simple images its creating and it's fun to have an ongoing project with no real agenda other than going out and taking some photos of people. I'm excited to see where it goes. It also has me thinking of other natural/ambient light projects. I'm inspired!

Ahhh, the hipstamatic! Still so much fun! I actually printed a few images last week of the sixth grade students I spoke with. I sent them each a print of themselves to go with their show. I have to say the prints look really cool. Enjoy!

Tuesday: Photographer/Artist That Inspires Me
This week I am featuring friend and fellow photographer Christian Kozowyk as a photographer/artist that inspires me. We met a while back assisting Tibor Nemeth and have been good friends since. We roll through the woods together on our mountain bikes and share a love for the Boston Celtics. I have watched Christian make the transition from assistant to full time photographer and he's done it quite successfully. Just check out his recent work for the Army to see the cool work he's getting.
Thanks for inspiring me Christian. Keep killing it! And the trails will be dry soon so we can get out and tear it up some more!

This week I am featuring Cole Barash as the photographer/artist that inspires me. Cole got into the game super young. He connected with Burton photographer Jeff Curtes when he was in junior high and asked a ton of questions. And shot a ton of film. Now Cole's in his early twenties traveling the globe shooting top pro snowboarders and ad campaigns for Nike. To put it simply, he's killing it. He is pushing snowboard photographing in a positive art driven way with his silo series and his skills of production really shine in the fireworks night pipe shoot for Transworld.
Cole, I am really proud of how far you've come and look forward to seeing where you take your photography. You have influenced me since you were a young grom back in VT and continue to do so with every image of yours I see. Thank you!
