Fun on the Job. Why the Hell Not?

While photographing Jessica Gellman I handed her the camera and slapped on a Pat's helmet and showed her my tough face. Next stop the NFL.  Awesome!
That's what Josh Campbell Photography is all about: getting amazing images and having a good time. We'll leave the seriousness to the brain surgeons and rocket scientists.
Here's an out-take of Jessica Gellman at Gillette Stadium braving the cold. I tried to get her to where the helmet for a funny shot. Good thing she wasn't into it because that thing was super tight and painful to take on and off. I got a nice note from her after the story ran thanking me for creating a great photo of her. I love it!

EMS

Here's a hipstamatic shot of a photo I did for some EMS in store displays a while back. We were in the store last night and I snapped this shot of my own shot. Enjoy!

Ah, b+w film.

I was recently asked to donate a snowboarding photo to a friends fund raising auction and this is the shot I settled on. I have been finding myself really drawn to the grainy b+w shots that I used to create so often back when I was shooting snowboarding all the time. I think it's time to grab a few rolls and come up with a new project!

Monday: Marketing Update

I have been shooting a bunch of personal work lately. Some running stuff and some ice climbing images too. In the past I have been sitting on images for a while before showing. Last week I updated my site with the most recent work. Then sent out several email blasts promoting the work and the site. I have seen a dramatic increase in website hits and have had a lot of really great feedback. I really like seeing that what I'm shooting is hitting home with my target markets. It inspires me to keep on shooting what I like and then put it out in the world!

Tuesday: Photographer/Artist That Inspires Me

All kick ass images © Gary Land
This week I am featuring photographer/artist Gary Land as a photographer that inspires me. Gary was one of the original East Coast snowboarding photographers. I first saw his images in Eastern Edge Magazine and Snowboarder Magazine. I remember seeing Gary toting around some big ass 600mm lens on a monopod at The US Open of Snowboarding and thinking how cool is that guy? Gary went on to be the in-house photographer at Reebok for a while and that's where we met. I assisted him a few times and his energy on set is amazing and fun. He's left Reebok and runs a hugely successful freelance business shooting for Coke, Nike, Adidas, and more. His work is cutting edge and pushes the envelope with crisp clean post production and excellent lighting. I also love his blog where he posts a bunch of his point and shoot stuff. He's always shooting, looking for the cool in wherever he is. And that is what inspires me most.
Thanks for the inspiration Gary and keep killing it!

Tuesday: A Photographer/Artist That Inspires Me

Today I am featuring photographer and friend Tibor Nemeth as a photographer who inspires me. Tibor's use of natural light and simple approach to photography is amazing. He knows the rules of photography and uses them to create amazing imagery.
Thanks Tibor for the inspiration and keep up the good work!

I'm on a Promotional Binge

The email above went out to a targeted list of running companies.

This email featuring Detroit Lion Gosider Cherilus, that I shot for The Boston Globe Magazine, went out to a targeted list of ad agencies and magazines that specialize in sports.

These images are outtakes from a cover shoot also for The Boston Globe Magazine. This email went out to big and small ad agencies as well as a ton of magazines.

I also stopped by the post office today and dropped off nearly 700 postcards that have these same images on them and are sent out to the same target markets. My thoughts are that some people like emails and some people like printed promos, so I'm going to hit them with both.

Any thoughts? Any criticism? What are you doing to promote your photography?
Please if you are here, checking out what I'm doing, leave a comment. I love and welcome feedback, both positive and negative.

East Coast Surf + Being a Photographer

This was last Saturday up in Hampton, NH. I went along with my buddy Matt with the intentions of getting in the water and surfing too. When we got there I broke out my camera and started shooting. I was shooting for me and having a blast doing it. Being a photographer, doing photographer things, having photographs. Awesome!

In Print: Harvard Hockey

The Harvard Hockey story ran in today's Globe Magazine. I have a still life cover and three spreads on the inside, with a couple of cool portraits that I'm proud of.

A Little Hockey Action

I shot a little hockey last week for the Boston Globe Magazine with the Harvard Crimson hockey team. We did a few portraits, some on ice action, and even a still for this project. The story should run in the beginning of October and I'll post a few more photos then.
Thanks to Grant at the Globe for the assignment and Jon K. for getting up super early to help me out.
